143 Million Less One

Friends of a friend of a friend are a part of the Adoption/Foster Care Ministry leadership team at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater. They adopted their son from China in 2009 and maintain an adoption advocacy blog on behalf of all the little ones they left behind, called 143 Million Less One.

Nancy contacted me today and offered to write a post about bringing Danil home...and of course, I took her up on it!  Check out her blog, not just for our story, but for many many others.

Maybe one or two or a hundred people will be influenced to help just one more orphan.

Katelyn

I just found out that this sweetie is at Danil's orphanage.  (Chase used to make this face all the time- we called it his "Trying Really Hard" face- ha!)

Oh, would that we could bring home 2 children.  I know that leaving the orphanage with him in our arms will be the most amazing and most difficult thing we will ever do- awesome in that we will be uniting Danil with our family, heartbreaking because we cannot do the same for every child there who needs their own Mama and Papa.

I'm told that she is FIVE and TEENY.  Katelyn needs a family who can love on her and unlock her potential. Just that little information reminds me of Hailee's story at No Greater Joy Mom...5 and teeny...and blossoming in such an incredible way after less than a YEAR home with her forever family.

Channel 14 News Story

Here we are- famous again!  I love how many people we are able to spread awareness to.  Who knows who will be watching and make a decision to add to their family?

See us on the news!

Look for our family story on Channel 14 with Heather Waliga THIS SATURDAY (2/26) all day long (I guess it will be repeated periodically).  How awesome is that?

I wonder how many people will see our story and have their eyes opened to the possibility of adopting a child with special needs?

You can also "friend" Channel 14 on Facebook and find a link to it there sometime this weekend as well.

Thanks to Channel 14, Heather, and camera-man AJ who took the time to come out here and talk to us :)

*Bonus:  Look for my Group Hug Apparel t-shirt in the interview!  Props to Andrew Banar and his awesome Rock On designs!!

Dossier Update

Lots going on around here-- time for an update!!

1- We have completed our home study process, and only have a couple of documents to get to our wonderful social worker to allow her to finish her report.

2- We were interviewed by Channel 14 this morning!!  Can't wait to see our story on TV!!

3- Bryan and I both got our medicals done and I am apparently deficient in Vitamin D.  Wish that the nurse on the phone had told me that AFTER giving me my HIV results, because she left a very long pause after saying, "We have your test results, and....." People!  You don't take a giant breath before giving out HIV test results!!  Of course the pause was there to tell me about the Vitamin D and that she was calling in a prescription for me (and my HIV results were negative, of course), but for Heaven's sakes, don't make me worry!!

4- We learned that there is currently a 60 day turn-around on the i600a form.  That is the form that we send to immigration to be approved to adopt in the United States (as far as I can gather) and we need our completed home study to send in with that.  When we are approved, they send us back a 171H, which is really the last big piece of paperwork that we need for our dossier!  After that, we send our dossier to Eastern Europe and anxiously await our court appointment!!  So, hypothetically, if all of the stars align, we could have our home study done by the end of March, our i600a sent in by April, our dossier submitted by June, and travel sometime soon after that...?!!!  Eeeee!

5- Our blog auction is going really well!  Thanks again to everyone who donated such awesome stuff, and also to our bidders :)  You guys rock.  Remember, you have until Feb 28th at 11:59pm to bid!!

6- Look for a new fundraiser to begin in early March.  I have it from a good source that there *may* be an iPad giveaway :)

Madd Love Auction Addition

We've had such a great response to our honey futures, that we've decided to add another quart to the bidding!

Up now for bids is ONE more quart of Maddex Homegrown Honey, straight from our messy backyard.

Honey Futures :)

My DSAC Roots and Shoots sisters suggested this, so I figured, why not?

Up for bidding is one quart size jar of fresh, raw honey from the bees in our backyard!!  Bryan has been beekeeping for 3 years now, and this local honey is the best.ever.  It doesn't even compare to the corn-syrupy sludge that you get in the grocery store.  The only catch is that we won't be harvesting the honey until August 2011, so if you win, you have to wait for your product (but it is worth it!).

Raw honey is known for it's antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, as well as its ability to ease allergy symptoms.

*Bonus weird fact:  doctors are using raw honey on burn wounds, incisions, and other skin ailments.  We've used it on poor Chase's extreme Hirshprung's-related diaper rash, and it WORKS!

Opening bid: $5
