I know it may get old after a while, but honestly, it is so refreshing to be able to just wander...to be able to stop when we want to stop, eat where we want to eat...to sit on a bench to people watch, or to explore a giant 4 story indoor market.
This afternoon we walked for ever in search of a restaurant called Felice, but learned that we were in the wrong place :/ Will try again soon, now that we have a better idea of where it is! We ended up at this bar/restaurant place, which looked more like a restaurant from the outside, and more like a bar with snacks on the inside. The people were really really nice, though, and after I gave them my deer-in-the-headlights look after perusing the menu and finding very few pictures and very many Cyrillic words, one of the workers (manager?) handed us a cell phone with an English speaker on the other end. Bryan kind of told him what we were looking for, and he told us what was kind of on the menu, and then Bryan gave the phone back to the guy and our order was in!
We ended up with pizza with chicken and fresh veggies, and chicken/cheese vareniki (filled dumplings, like ravioli, but with a thinner pasta). I like to try new things, and Bryan is less trusting of new food- can you tell? lol. But both turned out to be really good, and we had enough pizza to take home for lunch tomorrow.
Prices are crazy good here. Examples:
$10 for tonight's dinner- a giant beer for Bryan, a bottled water for me (gas!), a medium-sized pizza, a big bowl of vareniki and the tip for the waitress.
$5 trip to the grocery store- bar of soap, tube of toothpaste, 3 bananas, a loaf of yummy bakery sliced bread, a candy bar, and hieney wipes (don't laugh- you never know when you're going to need toilet paper when you are out!).
We were going to attempt to find another Rotary Club meeting today or tomorrow, but it is really hard to find an address and a bulding and a group of people that you don't know when you only speak 9 words of the language (yes- we've learned more! Ha!). We may have to ask Tatiana really nicely to help us find a meeting for next week :)
Tonight we're going to try to get to bed early again. We've been going nap-less for a few days now, and I think we are just about as jet-lag free as we'll ever be. The only problem now is that the bed just isn't as comfy as our bed at home, nor are the pillows...you know, when you are traveling, you never sleep as well as you do when you are in your own home. Not to mention that when we are in our own bed, that also means that all our boys are just a few steps down the hallway from us. We miss them terribly, and we'll ALL sleep better under the same roof, I think.
